Since I am taking this from a Reiki perspective, I am going to talk mostly in the training I received in Reiki but this could apply to any Distance Healing modality.

Folks often ask me if Distance Healing works. Of course it does! The way that Distance Healing works is through pure intent. There are many situations where you could apply Distance Healing that you might or might not have thought of in your healing work. As with any healing, make sure to ask your spirit guides, angels, and anyone else you work with to help you with healing. Also, it's important to ask these deities work with you in this healing with the intention that it will be done for the highest good of everyone involved, including yourself.

For example, with the tragedy on September 11th, you could send it to the rescue workers in NY, families who have experienced loss or the souls still trapped on the earth. If you know Reiki, you could send the symbols (make sure to use Ha-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen if you are a Reiki II) and healing energy. The Universal life-force energy will transfer to your recipients. Using a surrogate (like a stuffed animal or yourself) is helpful but if you are in a situation where you can't take your hands off what you're doing (such as driving), your intent will help transfer the energy. (Trust me, you hands will still get hot!)

You can use Distance Healing for many things other than just emergencies. For example, if you are meeting with a client at their house, send some positive energy to their house before you get there. This is great for staff meetings too. (I know I've used it!) Send energy to the room and the participants. Remember, things still might not go as hoped (i.e. you might not get that client to buy your services) but as long as you asked this healing be done in everyone's highest good, know that things went the way they should and the healing energy didn't go to waste. (Maybe that client let you down easier than they would have without the positive energy.)

Even if you don't know Reiki, if you can or like to visualize, send the healing energy. You can visualize a ball of light surrounding your intended recipients (in whatever color you'd like) pulsating with healing and loving energy. Some great colors to use are Green or Pink for Love/Healing Energy or Gold or White for Divine Energy. You could surround the earth in this loving,healing color by using a picture of the earth or visualizing it in your mind. Colors are fun to use so experiment with them in your healing. Ask Spirit to help with choosing the colors for your session - you may be surprised with what you get!

Don't worry if you can't visualize. Use other senses to send healing to the recipient. For example, does the sound of the ocean really connect you to the earth? If you'd like to use a tape that has ocean sounds on it, state your intention before you start your healing session that every time you hear the waves crashing, you are sending healing energy to your intended receiver.

You can also use fragrance - oils, incense, or candles. For example, light a candle and ask Spirit to take the light of the candle as the healing fire to your intended receiver and sit quietly looking at the flame for a few minutes. You might notice a change in the flame. Be creative!

Always ask Spirit (or whomever you work with in your healing) to not drain your own supply of energy. Ask to draw energy from Spirit or Mother Earth - whatever energy source you'd like to use - so you don't feel tired or worn out after you do your healing.
Don't lock yourself into a certain amount of time for a healing session. In other words, if you send energy to a friend and it only lasts 15 minutes instead of the 30 minutes you intended, that's okay. Maybe that's all he or she needed. Any healing you send, whether it's 30 seconds or 30 minutes, will help.
Keep a journal. Your experiences with healing will be different almost every time so record your sessions so you can look over them later.
Ask for healing for yourself. Remember, it's important to take care of yourself if you're doing healing work too. You can ask for healing along with the receiver, just state it in your intention.
Try to create a space for the distance healing, if possible. Use a quiet room if you can. If not, don't worry. You may want to send healing during a staff meeting to shift the energy in the room. While you can't prepare a space for this, you can state your intent silently. Just this small step alone can be powerful.

However you decide to use Distance Healing, know that any energy work can benefit the planet and you! Create your own types of distance healing practices. Remember, your intent is what will carry the energy and you'll be doing as effective job as if the person was right in front of you. Enjoy!
