Happy hellos, paranormal enthusiasts! My mailbox is
absolutely bulging with your letters so I am devoting this
week's issue to sharing as many of them as I can and I hope
you will enjoy our readers' contributions as much as I have.
We'll start off with another selection of psychic and para-
normal animal stories, and then dip back into the archives
to address some of the other topics we've been talking about
in recent weeks.
We are in the middle of the 2006
Perseid Meteor Showers,
which are considered by many skywatchers
to be the highlight
of meteor lightshows. The Perseids,
named after the
constellation Perseus, are in play from about
July 15 through
August 25 but will be providing the biggest show
this weekend,
being at their peak from the evening of August 12
through
August 13.
The Egyptian Queen of the
Constellations, Sopdet (also known
as Nut) had her feast day
this week on August 8. Sopdet is
honored during the dog days as
she lives in Sirius, the dog
star, which is at its peak in
midsummer. On the night of
August 7th, we had just arrived home
from a trip and as we
were walking to the house from our car, I
noticed a shooting
star in the night sky between our house and
the neighbors'.
The next day I learned that these shooting
stars are said to
be messages to seekers from Sopdet. If you
have a question
about your destiny, goddess expert Patricia
Telesco says that
you should ask Sopdet and then watch the skies
for your
answer. A shooting star on your right side is a
positive
omen meaning better days are ahead. If you see one to
your
left, this indicates the need for caution. A shooting
star
straight ahead means things will continue on an even
keel
for now. Making a wish, however, and seeing any
shooting
star means Sopdet has received and acknowledged your
wish.
And now, on with our own show!

Paranormal Pets
One day I came home and was
exhausted and knew that I was
going to fall asleep. I was
concerned because one of my
favorite shows is on at 3 p.m. and
it was about 2:15 p.m. I
did fall asleep, with our cat, Patty,
on my lap.
The next thing I knew, I heard her meowing quite
loudly, for
no apparent reason. I woke up fully and looked at
the clock.
It was about 2:58. I didn't think about this until I
was
reading your column, but, it was as if she knew 1) what
time
I wanted to be awakened, and 2) what time it was. Honest
to
God, this was one of the strangest episodes I had with
this
cat, although we always have been close.
Sincerely,
Tom R.

Thanks so much for the emails about spirit cats. I have 10,
live ones that is - I call them "mews", not cats.
In the
mobile home I live in, however, there is a grey tabby
spirit cat
with orange eyes - I've seen him numerous times
and once very
well. He does not belong to me but I guess to
the house? Anyway,
I call him GM (Ghost Mew), and talk to
him as I do my
others...
And thanks so much for your input on being an
animal fanatic
... geez ... you sound like me with the baby bird
- been
there and done that...

Dear Zsuzsana,
Starting about five years ago I
noticed I developed certain
gifts involving spirits of people
and animals, but mostly
cats it seems. My son was 5 at the time
(he is now 13) when
we ended up getting two cats that were found
at my then
husband's work. They had been born from a stray and
were 2
of 8 kittens born. My son cared for them and it seemed
that
after about two months they completely switched
personal-
ities. We had them for about 9 months. One day they
got out
and showed up two days later injured.
It looked as if they were attacked by another animal. We did
not have the money for a visit to the vet let alone surgery.
My son and I cleaned them up, spoon fed them and he slept on
our sofa with them all night. He knew the next day that they
were going to be put down, so he cried and said his goodbyes
and went off to school. They were very loving companions and
we have photos of them with my son. Anyway, about 5 years ago,
I noticed that my son and I are allergic to cats. One of my
best friends has a cat who is loveable and I love to pet
him
but we take allergy meds before we go by her.
About two
weeks after we moved into our new apartment I
noticed I would
see "something" run past on the floor. It
usually happens when I
am reading or just relaxing. One
evening as I was sleeping I had
a feeling that something had
crawled onto my cover and was
walking toward my legs. It
felt like it was kneading at the
cover and then laid down.
I looked and nothing was there, not
surprisingly, consider-
ing we have no pets.
I tend to see it often and now my son said he has seen what
he thinks are small eyes looking at him from around the
corner of our sofa which looks directly into his room. He
did not know about the cover incident until after he told
me
what he saw. Occasionally he will see something walking
around
his room at night - it still freaks him out a bit
but he enjoys
the company.
I often see a fleeting glimpse of someone going
in the bath-
room and leaving it, which does not bother me
because I am
used to it. I figure since we are allergic to cats,
what
better than to have a pet you won't sneeze around and do
not
need to feed. I sometimes get the feeling it may be our
old
cats coming to visit. There is no history of anyone
living
here before us that had a cat or two. They are missed by
us
and I adore having them around.
Thanks
for listening,
Sue

I used to work at a nursing home that had a program called
the Eden philosophy. It is a program where cats, dogs and
birds and even fish live in the nursing home and interact
with the residents. They have weekly visits by day cares
and have a lot of gardening opportunities also. It is a
whole philosophy that doesn't just involve cats but that is
the topic of this letter.
We have a white kitty named
Sassy. He had the unique
ability to know when one of our
sick residents was approach-
ing death and he always laid on the
bed and stayed very
close to them. Sometimes it comforted
the resident and
other times it comforted the families. When
they didn't
like the cat in the room he slept outside the door
in the
hallway. We had 2 different floors and the animals
would
ride the elevators to get to the different
floors.
This happened with such accuracy that it even made
the
local newspaper. We had a very unfortunate resident
once
who came to the nursing home from the hospital
because
there was no hope of saving her and she came there for
the
specific purpose of dying there. That kitty met
the
ambulance at the door of the nursing home to welcome
that
particular resident. It happened to my mother-in-law
and
we didn't even know she was dying until we saw the
kitty
hanging around her.
I don't know how
Sassy knew these people were dying but he
did. Sassy
interacted with all the residents and just
because he slept on a
bed, it didn't mean the person was
dying, but if the end was
near you didn't have far to look
to find Sassy.

My
story is probably not very uncommon, but I figured I
would give
a shot at telling it. My roommate has a cat
named Padme. Now,
Padme is an overweight tortoiseshell
kitty who everyone seems to
think isn't pretty at all, but
we find her absolutely
beautiful. She's also great to have
around when you're
sick. For example, I have a bad right
kidney. Every few months I
end up with an infection in it
and am currently seeking
extensive treatment to find out the
cause.
The last major flare-up was in January when it was bitingly
cold in Houston. The roommate and I were trying to save
money by living in a terrible one bedroom apartment with no
heat other than a plug-in ceramic heater. The gas was on
the
fritz so there was no hot water either. I was in bed
running a
103 degree fever for a week, which made it all the
colder for
me. If I left the blankets my teeth would start
chattering
immediately. I could not keep down food and was
in constant need
of fluids. Padme, who mildly disdains
everyone, would not leave
my side the entire time.
I did not leave that bed for more
than fifteen minutes at a
time and neither did she.
Whenever I woke up she was curled
up next to my right kidney,
purring extremely loudly and
giving me her body warmth. If
I was having pain dreams a
cold nose would touch mine (she's
always had a static
electricity problem from her nose and she
enjoys shocking
people with it) and the static jolt would wake
me up long
enough so I could get back to sleep nightmare free.
After I
came back from the hospital she hovered around me like
a
worried mother until my antibiotics kicked in.
Until I was in the clear, however, she slept in my bed at my
feet, protecting my medication. Once I was better she left
my bed and has not slept in it since. I have thanked her
numerous times and she will always let me rub her head
during said thankings, otherwise she's a big loner. I'm not
sure if she could just tell I was sick by the way I may have
smelled to her or if she psychically knows when we're all
sick (she will sleep with anyone with a cold).

Zsuzsana,
While reading this week's reader comments,
I was inspired to
send in my own story. A major theme seems to
be cats, and I
thought there should be a story about dogs.
All my life
I've always had a dog. I've also always lived
in the same
house. In my small bedroom is a door that
leads to a little
room we use as storage. It also has a
door to the attic
which has been boarded up since I can
remember. Every dog
I've ever owned would always avoid
that door, and when they
slept with me they would just stare at
that door. Now I'm
semi-sensitive to the paranormal and I
could always sense
that something was in there
myself.
Last year I adopted a Shepherd mix from a
shelter. I've
never seen a dog do this, but he used to
jump up on the
walls like he was trying to get at something on
the ceiling.
A few months ago my boyfriend moved in with me
and brought
his 3 dogs. They're all stubborn and pretty
fearless,
especially the older of the three and mother of the
other
two. We had Kita sleep with us and she started out
sleeping
by my closet. She started this strange behavior
where she
would duck her head like someone was trying to pet her
and
she didn't want them to. Then she would start
scratching
at the floor. After that she would move to
sleep between
the bed and the wall. She stopped being
scared after a few
weeks and actually enjoys the attention from
our ghostly
roommate when he ventures out of the
attic.
There's something else Kita did that I thought was
interest-
ing. Shortly after we got settled in we decided
to get a
fourth dog. I guess this dog was neglected by the
former
owners because he couldn't stand to not be on anyone's
lap.
He would just jump up and not leave you alone. Well one
day
I wasn't feeling too well. I had a migraine and my
stomach
was upset because of it. I really wasn't in the mood
to
deal with a fairly large dog crawling all over
me.
Well, that was the day my boyfriend decided to have
both
Kita and Thomas in the house together to see how they
would
get along. Kita spent the day laying in front of the
couch
by me. Every time Thomas would come over to me, she bit
him
and chased him away. She did about the same thing when
I
had the flu. At that time we didn't have Thomas
anymore
but she still wouldn't leave my side. Oddly enough I
felt
better with her there.

Questions
and Comments
Hi Zsuzsana,
Could you
and/or your readers help me to understand a dream
I had about my
mother? She died in the mid 80's but a dream
I had about her has
bothered me a lot, from time to time. I
can't understand it but
I would like to try.
Within a week of her funeral, I dreamed
the same dream 3
nights in a row. The first 2 nights she was
sitting in a
chair just looking down at the floor. I couldn't
see her
face and also, I didn't say anything to her. On the
3rd
night, it was the same dream but this time, I said.
"Momma,
raise your head up" and she did, and just looked at me.
She
didn't say anything and neither did I. I don't
remember
anything else, if there was any more to the dream. That
was
the last time I had that dream and really don't
recall
having any more dreams about her.
Can
anyone shed any light on this? Like I said, I have
wondered
about it a lot and have no idea what it meant, or
if she was
trying to tell me something or what.
Thank you for
listening.

Hi Zsuzsana, I have a question for you. I had lived in a
house for 10 years that was still inhabited by its original
owner who had passed away. She was no problem other than
taking things and leaving them in other places. I would
ask
her to return whatever it was that we couldn't locate
and it
would show up in other places than where we had last
used it.
After I sold the house it was torn down. Where
would she have
gone after the house was no longer there? I
don't think she
moved with me as I have had no episodes of
things happening in
my new home. The next door neighbor
bought the house. Would she
now be with them? I enjoy
your e-mails and look forward to
them every week.
Thank you, Janene

I live in Franklin County in Western Massachusetts and I am
wondering if anyone knows of any abandoned houses that are
haunted in this area? Any replies would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you, Melisa

Though I've never experienced telepathy with pets, I swear I
have it with my son! There are times we're driving in the
car and I'll get lost in thought and maybe play a
conversation over in my head. My son will turn to me and
ask, "What did you say?" I am POSITIVE that my mouth never
opened. This happens very often, however, I don't "hear" his
thoughts.
We're both born in January, and a psychic once
told me that
people born in January are more capable of
developing tele-
pathy and psychic skills than others. I still
haven't made
up my mind if this is true or not, but as the years
go on,
and my son keeps questioning my thoughts that he hears,
I'm
becoming a believer!

My oldest daughter said she saw something over or at least
in the direction of my mother-in-law's house. I had her draw
a picture of it and it was the regular saucer shape that
people say are UFOs. She said the TV had gone zig-zaggy,
which ours did quite often back then, but when she slapped
the side of it like we used to do it didn't quit and that's
when she looked out the window toward my mother-in-law's
house and saw whatever she saw. I came up from our barn a
little after that and she was scared and was standing with
her back against the wall around the corner of the wall
with
the window. My younger daughter was on the couch and
never woke
up to see it. I never looked toward my mother-in-
law's place so
I didn't see it when I was coming up from
the barn.
I also had sort of a strange incident when our yard light
went out, which it never does in the middle of the night.
There wasn't any lightning either, but then something that
looked like a little ball of light flew up from that area
and flew over our garage and north and disappeared. Then
the
light came back on. Weird!
Sincerely yours,
Muretta Scott
A follow-up:
Thank
you for writing back. A neighbor woman had an
experience
around that time too with supposed crop circles,
when someone
said a disc shape slid into a slough. Also,
they said it scared
their horse so it cut its neck some on
a fence by running
through it. I guess that was in the
Pelican Rapids Press back in
1979 or thereabout, and then
in the Minneapolis Tribune. I
haven't looked it up to
substantiate any of that, but other
people knew about it.
This woman is a very normal and nice
person. I wish I could
have seen that. It seemed odd that people
keep stuff like
that quiet.
